Crafting a Family, 2021

An exhibition of drawings and large scale textile works alongside stories and artefacts relating to the textile history and making practices of McEvoy’s Family.  Created for the New Glasgow Societies for display in their new East gallery it was exploration of one Glasgow family's  relationship with craft and textiles as a source of income, pleasure, and self expression.

Exploring how successive generations of McEvoy’s family have engaged with textiles and making as expressions of their social and economic status. With the original craft heirlooms juxtaposed with new interpretations exploring the stories behind them. Emphasising the falsely idealized past that many people from industrial cities have of the past and contrasting them with the realities of economic struggle, sectarianism and violence.
